What is BXR/BJXR Series Crossed Tapered Roller Bearing?
The BXR/BJXR Series Crossed Tapered Roller Bearing features two sets of raceways and rollers combined at right angles to each other, with the rollers arranged in an alternating, staggered pattern. Despite this complex internal structure, the cross-sectional height is nearly identical to that of a single-row bearing, significantly saving space and reducing the material required for the bearing housing.
The system utilizes a large taper angle and a unique tapered design, which multiplies the effective span of the bearing width. This allows the BXR/BJXR series to withstand high overturning moments, making it the ideal choice for high-demand machinery such as vertical boring mills, grinding machine tables, circular indexing tables, large gear hobbing machines, rotary tables, and industrial robots.
Features of BXR/BJXR Series Crossed Tapered Roller Bearings
Multi-Directional Load Capacity: These bearings are designed for high-precision rotary requirements under multi-directional loading. Consisting of one outer ring, a split inner ring, and cross-arranged tapered rollers separated by nylon spacers, the "X" arrangement enables the bearing to handle axial loads, radial loads, and overturning moments simultaneously. This achieves maximum rigidity within a minimal cross-section.
Extended Service Life: The tapered roller geometry prevents unidirectional sliding between the rollers and the raceways, significantly reducing wear. Lubrication is simple and efficient, conducted through the gap between the split inner rings.
Adjustable Preload & High Precision: Delivered as individual components, this series allows users to calibrate and apply preload during assembly, ensuring high rotational accuracy.
BYBearings Quality Assurance: Utilizing high-quality bearing steel and specialized heat treatment, BYBearings ensures superior durability. The bearing body also includes integrated lifting holes for easier handling.
Applications of BXR/BJXR Series Crossed Tapered Roller Bearings
Due to their exceptional rigidity, the BXR/BJXR series is widely utilized in:
Machine Tools: Vertical boring mills, vertical lathes, and high-precision grinding worktables.
Precision Indexing: Circular indexing tables for CNC machining centers and large gear hobbing machines.
Industrial Robotics: Heavy-payload robot base joints and primary rotation axes.
Large-scale Rotary Systems: Radar antenna pedestals and precision measuring equipment.
Techspecs of BXR/BJXR Series Crossed Tapered Roller Bearings
Material: Premium High-Carbon Chromium Bearing Steel (GCr15/SAE52100).
Precision Grade: Available in P5, P4, and P2 high-precision ratings.
Structure: Tapered rollers in a cross-pattern with nylon spacers.
Preload: Fully adjustable to optimize the balance between stiffness and friction.
How does BXR/BJXR Series Crossed Tapered Roller Bearings work?
The working principle centers on the tapered geometry of the rollers and raceways. The tapered design ensures that the rolling motion is perfectly aligned with the raceway’s radius, preventing sliding friction. The "X" arrangement allows the bearing to act as a two-row bearing within the footprint of one, effectively converting complex external loads into internal compressive forces for signature high tilt-rigidity.
How to Install BXR/BJXR Series Crossed Tapered Roller Bearings?

Preparation: Align components according to the assembly structure. BYBearings products are pre-tensioned with bolts and can be installed as a complete unit.
Mounting Sequence: Install flange plates in sequence. Tighten bolts in a diagonal "star" pattern and use a feeler gauge to verify the plates are perfectly seated.
Rotation & Accuracy Detection: Before installing the journal flange, rotate the outer ring to ensure rollers and spacers settle correctly. Fix the inner ring with a pressure plate. Use a dial indicator to measure parallelism and axial runout at surface "C" to determine the correct spacer thickness.
Maintenance: Ensure correct lubrication, monitor the lubrication system regularly, and operate strictly within specified parameters to minimize impact load risks.

Given the structural characteristics of crossed roller bearings (rollers arranged in a 90° cross pattern), our technical team uses 3D CAD and finite element analysis (FEA) software to accurately calculate raceway angles, spacing, and interference.
Customizing products based on customer operating conditions, we benchmark against P2/P4/P5 tolerance classes and simulate post-assembly rotational precision in advance. The blueprint serves as the sole standard guiding all subsequent turning, grinding, and inspection processes.
Turning and grinding are the core processes that determine the bearing's geometric precision. We use high-rigidity CNC lathes for step-by-step ring processing, ensuring basic inner/outer diameter and raceway dimensions through rough, semi-finish, and finish turning while leaving grinding allowances.
We employ plunge grinding with formed grinding wheels for the V-shaped raceways of crossed roller bearings, and perform combination matching for the split inner/outer rings to ensure rotational plane runout meets P5 or higher standards.
The assembly of crossed roller bearings is more delicate than standard bearings: rollers must be arranged in an alternating cross pattern and precisely guided by spacers or cages.
All components are ultrasonically cleaned, dried, and grouped according to measured dimensions. High rigidity and stable torque are then imparted to the crossed roller bearings through negative clearance or preload adjustments. Assembly is completed in a constant temperature and humidity cleanroom to ensure P4/P2 level precision.
As tolerance classes P5, P4, and P2 become progressively stricter, our inspection equipment and processes are upgraded accordingly:
We use high-precision roundness measuring instruments for dimensional tolerances, dial indicators with dedicated test mandrels for radial and axial runout, profilometers and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to verify raceway profiles and angles, and dedicated clearance and torque testers to determine clearance and starting torque.
The packaging process is equally strict, ensuring zero loss of precision for the crossed roller bearings from the factory until pre-installation.
Eco-friendly anti-rust oil is evenly sprayed to ensure no residual particles in the inner cavity. Each bearing is vacuum-sealed in a thickened PE bag and film for water and dust protection, then boxed using wrapping tape. The outer carton is lined with high-density foam and pearl cotton to prevent transport collisions, and is marked with the model, precision grade (P5/P4/P2), and production batch number.
